Peanuts Worldwide has tapped South Korea’s Aurora World to turn popular characters from the including Snoopy, Charlie and Woodstock into a new range of plush, eyeing a global launch in June 2024.
The last time the partners collaborated on Peanuts plush was in 2014, and in recent years, Aurora World has secured licensing deals for True and the Rainbow Kingdom (Guru Studio) and YooHoo & Friends (Mondo TV).
As a toy category, plush seems to be holding its own in an otherwise shrinking retail sales environment. According to market research market firm Circana (previously NPD Group), while overall toy sales in the US dipped in September 2023 compared to the same month the previous year, plush sales increased by 1%.
The Peanuts brand is in the midst of a renaissance at the moment. Apple TV+ ordered its first CG-animated Peanuts feature-length film (pictured) from WildBrain and Peanuts Worldwide in November, and the streamer is also launching new specials based on several lesser-known characters later this year.
