LA-based Second Dinner, the studio behind Marvel Snap, has raised US$100 million and is eyeing growth in the kids market.
Venture capitalist firm Griffin Gaming Partners led the recent Series B funding round and has joined Second Dinner as a minority investor. The company plans to continue operating independently and will use the new capital to expand Marvel Snap, build its development slate and pursue new licensing opportunities.
Game designer Ben Brode (Blizzard Entertainment’s Hearthstone) co-founded Second Dinner in 2018, and 2022’s Marvel Snap was its first release. The digital collectible card game has generated upwards of US$200 million in revenue so far, racking up more than 22 million downloads on mobile phones and PCs.
The studio is currently developing several new four-quadrant games that can be enjoyed by everyone, says COO Matt Wyble. And it’s also actively looking to partner with companies that own popular kids and family content brands.
In the near future, Second Dinner plans to expand Marvel Snap with fresh game modes. And the funding boost will let it invest in new titles and build its infrastructure to deliver more blockbuster games, says Wyble.
