Brit broadcaster Sky Kids has inked a new development deal with David Levine’s London-based company Lightboat Media to turn a children’s picture book called Uncle Bobby’s Wedding into a CG-animated special.
The 30-minute project is in active development under a pair of LGBTQ+ creatives—Levine as executive producer and American writer/producer Michael Vogel (My Little Pony: The Movie, Princess Alexander) as scriptwriter.
The plan is for Uncle Bobby’s Wedding to launch on Sky Kids during Pride Month in June 2025. And there’s still room on the guestlist for a few more partners to get involved. Sky and Lightboat would like to shore up a co-producer, a distributor and another commissioning broadcaster.
Penned by author Sarah Brennan, the book targets three- to six-year-olds and follows a young girl who learns that her Uncle Bobby is getting married to his boyfriend Jamie. While she’s initially jealous that her beloved uncle may not have as much time to play with her, after spending an adventure-filled day with the engaged couple, Chloe realizes that she’s gaining another uncle rather than losing one.
Uncle Bobby’s Wedding was first published by G. P. Putnam’s Sons in 2008, but it was reissued worldwide in 2021 with new illustrations from Lucia Soto (Bravo Anjali!, Cinder & Ella) by Little Bee Books in partnership with GLAAD.
