Jellyfish Originals—the content arm of British animation/VFX studio Jellyfish Pictures—has brought on a new co-pro partner and global distributor for Stan & Gran (pictured), which starts production this month.
Bangalore, India-based Xentrix Studios will handle the CG animation for this preschool series as a third co-producer (alongside Jellyfish Pictures and Jollywise Media). With studios in Canada, Australia, the Philippines and Singapore, Xentrix has previously done service work for kids animated series like Monster High (Nickelodeon) and Big Nate (Paramount+).
Set in a fictional coastal village, Stan & Gran (52 x 11 minutes) is about a curious young boy and his grandmother who investigate mysterious happenings together.
Banijay Kids & Family Distribution has also come on board to sell the series worldwide. In a release, Julia Rowlands (SVP of sales, co-pros and acquisitions) noted that the show’s theme of intergenerational relationships helps position it for strong interest among international buyers.
Stan & Gran has been in development since 2018, when Jellyfish Pictures and Jollywise first teamed up on the project. Created by Jollywise founder/MD Jon Mason, the series scored a commission last year from Channel 5’s Milkshake! block in the UK.
Jellyfish Pictures has made several new hires to work on the production, including head writer Howard Read (Danger Mouse), director Simone Giampaolo (Bad Dinosaurs) and producer Peter Griffiths (Rosie’s Rules).
Mason and Natalie Llewellyn—who stepped into a new role as Jellyfish Originals MD last week to spearhead its proprietary content push—are both EPs on the project.
