9 Story Media Group closed a deal on Friday to acquire the development/production slates and distribution library of fellow Canadian company Portfolio Entertainment.

Portfolio was founded more than 30 years ago by Lisa Olfman and the late Joy Rosen, who passed away last year.

Under the new agreement, Olfman will now serve as an executive producer at 9 Story, reporting to president and CEO Vince Commisso. She’ll spearhead Portfolio’s ongoing projects—including some yet-to-be-announced kids shows—while helping to expand business opportunities for 9 Story.

Portfolio associate producer Lauren Evans-Bell is also taking on a dual role as both development manager and associate producer for 9 Story. Her remit will involve working closely with Olfman to support the development and production slates.

Over the years, Portfolio’s production credits have spanned all genres, including children’s shows like Groundling Marsh (YTV), Hero Elementary (PBS KIDS) and Doki (Discovery Kids). More than 550 half-hours of content make up its distribution roster, including kids titles like Treehouse TV’s The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That and Cartoon Network’s Carl Squared.

This latest acquisition bolsters 9 Story’s distribution catalogue to more than 5,000 half-hours of content. The company previously inked a similar deal in 2018 to acquire the library and slate of Breakthrough Entertainment

“9 Story has the talent, creative excellence and robust infrastructure to best elevate the Portfolio properties for the global market,” Olfman noted in a release.
