France’s Mediawan Kids & Family has secured distribution rights to Maddie + Triggs (pictured) and The Specials, as well as the second season of Idefix and the Indomitables.

The 52 x seven-minute 2D-animated Maddie + Triggs is a musical comedy about a visually impaired girl and her canine companion who discover melodies in the everyday sounds they encounter. Aimed at the four to seven demo, this IP originated in 2021 as a 15-ep podcast by Irish studio Turnip + Duck, which moved to adapt it for the small screen. Maddie + Triggs has been commissioned by CBeebies (UK) and RTÉjr (Ireland) to premiere in October this year. Mediawan owns the rights outside the UK and Ireland, and has already pre-sold the toon to Sweden’s SVT and YLE in Finland.

Finnish live-action tween dramedy The Specials is about a group of sixth graders who navigate the challenges of school life, from bullying to seeking acceptance among their peers. YLE Kids commissioned and premiered this 10 x 13-minute series from Mediawan Finland, which is prepping a third season. Taking the series to markets outside Finland, The Specials is also a part of Mediawan Kids & Family’s strategy to expand the live-action side of its distribution portfolio.

And finally, Mediawan has picked up the second season of Idefix and the Indomitables (52 x 13 minutes), a five to 10 CG-animated series from French prodco Studio 58. It has worldwide rights excluding Germany, Switzerland and French Canada, as well as limited rights in France. An adaptation of the popular comic IP Asterix, the show centers around the origins of the character Dogmatix. France Télévisions originally commissioned the series, which launched in fall 2021.

Mediawan Kids & Family manages distribution rights to more than 2,500 half-hours of content, including third-party acquisitions as well as shows produced by its own subsidiaries such as Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir (Method Animation).
