As Kidscreen Summit 2024 comes to a close in San Diego, here’s a look at some of the new business moves you may have missed this week.
BBC Children’s
The Beeb has signed a deal with brand owner Alphablocks and Blue Zoo Animation Studio for more preschool content from the Blocks franchise. Alphablocks and Blue Zoo will deliver new episodes of CG-animated series Alphablocks, Numberblocks and Colourblocks over a five-year period to keep CBeebies refreshed until 2027. “[This is] the biggest content agreement of its kind,” according to Kate Morton, senior head of commissioning (0-6) for BBC Children’s.
Cisneros Kids
The Miami-based company has inked a co-pro and distribution agreement with Toonz Media Group for a new CG-animated preschool series based on a doll range from Mexican toyco Distroller. Slated to deliver in 2026, Nerlies: Space Babies is about a seven-year-old girl who takes care of three mischievous intergalactic infants. Cisneros will manage distribution rights in LatAm and North America, with Toonz taking the lead in all other territories.
Superights
The distributor has picked up sales rights to new seasons of several kids shows already represented in its catalogue, including season two of Koumi’s Animated Picture Book (52 x five minutes, pictured) from France’s Le Regard Sonore; season three of Clay Time (30 x 4.5 minutes) from Parisian studio Reaz; and season two of Croco Doc (26 x seven minutes) from Spain’s Croco Doc AIE, Buenpaso Films, Nuts Ideas and RTVE. Wasting no time, Superights has already sold the latest seasons of Koumi and Clay Time across Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
Statement Worldwide
This eight-year-old Canadian PR firm has set up a new division called Statement Animation that will focus on marketing and distributing animated content in North America. The move is part of a rebrand and expansion plan that saw the company establish consumer products and media tech units last month.
