Amazon MGM Studios is in development on a new animated series concept based on the popular kidlit franchise Wings of Fire (pictured) penned by Tui Sutherland.

This dragon saga published by Scholastic primarily targets readers ages nine to 12, comprising 21 books plus seven graphic novels that have collectively sold more than 27 million copies worldwide and spent more than 240 weeks on the New York Times Best Sellers list.

Although there’s no launch date set yet, Amazon MGM’s fresh take will follow five young dragons who subvert their destiny to end a war by escaping and choosing their own fate.

Marc Resteghini is on board to executive produce the project under his Jack Tar Pictures banner as part of his overall deal. Resteghini previously spent eight years working at Amazon Studios, most recently as head of series development. He oversaw a raft of notable shows during this time, including Prime Video’s teen/YA drama The Summer I Turned Pretty.

This marks the second attempt at a Wings of Fire TV series. Warner Bros. Animation was previously developing an adaptation of the franchise with filmmaker Ava DuVernay (A Wrinkle in Time) for Netflix, which axed it in 2022.
