Ireland’s Treehouse Republic (Atom Town) has tapped former Netflix animation exec Alexi Wheeler to consult on the development of its children’s content.

Wheeler previously helped out on the studio’s Captain Carrie and the Monster Ship (26 x seven minutes) co-pro with Hey Daisy Moon Productions in Scotland. Treehouse is now expanding his role to include oversight of all of its kids projects in development, with a remit to beef up their appeal to international broadcasters and toycos.

One of the studio’s projects that Wheeler is currently working on is Hugo Monkeys Mix-ups, a digital-first preschool series (52 x seven minutes) that was created by Emmy-winning writer/producer Adam Redfern (Oddbods, Cozmo & Friends). It will initially launch on YouTube as a series of music videos, says Treehouse CEO Dale Robinson.

Wheeler worked at Netflix EMEA for roughly five years (2018 to 2023), heading up animated series in his most recent role. He was the driving force behind kids and family series such as Supa Team 4, Big Tree City and Sharkdog while at the streamer.

Before Netflix, Wheeler spent eight years developing and producing animation at Nickelodeon, and also he worked as a production associate on Peppa Pig earlier in his career
