Product innovator GennComm Imagennation is looking to license its patented textured slime technology to manufacturers interested in taking a more animalistic approach to this tactile category.
Developed in-house by director of innovation Brian Medwed, Genncomm’s fibre-in-slime compound makes it possible to create textures in the slime that feel furry, fuzzy, hairy or webby—which could be a natural fit for kids entertainment brands built around animal characters.
The LA-based company initially licensed its patent to Zuru Toys, which made and marketed a range of Oosh: Hairy Slime during the pandemic. But GennComm has just reacquired the license and is keen to bring this unique form of tactile pay to more products in the market.
Its newest partner is Wyncor, which recently licensed GennComm’s memory foam patent to make squishable plush toys for the MiraBall line of blind plastic globes that feature brands such as Miraculous, SpongeBob SquarePants and Peppa Pig
Slime is still a hot play trend. In fact, the American Specialty Toy Retailing Association just identified the “impulse toys” segment it belongs to (along with sensory fidget toys and blind bags) as a category to watch in 2024. And just last month, Paramount Global teamed up with Creative Kids Group to make and distribute a line of products based on Nick’s iconic slime in more than 40 countries worldwide this spring.
