Warner Bros.Games is hitting the ice with TNT Sports and the NHL to co-produce their first animated simulcast of a live pro hockey game.
MultiVersus NHL Face-Off will air on April 14, featuring CG-animated players from the Colorado Avalanche and Las Vegas Golden Knights, plus iconic characters from the Warner Bros. Discovery brand catalogue including Batman, Bugs Bunny, Velma and Steven Universe. And before the puck drops, TNT is hosting a draft on April 7 to divvy up these animated team members.
The MultiVersus game will air on TNT’s TruTV linear sports channel and B/R Sports add-on, while the league game runs on TNT and Max. The overarching goal for TNT Sports and the NHL is to introduce the game and league to a new generation of young fans. And WBD is looking to promote its upcoming MultiVersus fighting game, which launches in May.
This marks the fourth animated game the NHL has partnered with media companies on, following its inaugural NHL Big City Greens Classic simulcast with ESPN and Disney Branded Television last year. According to ESPN, that game attracted more than 765,000 viewers across its linear channels, Disney Channel and Disney XD.
