UK indie Factory Transmedia is closing its doors after grappling with cutbacks and reduced commissions in the international TV market.

The company entered voluntary liquidation, appointing Conrad Pearson and Patrick Lannagan from Mazars—an international audit, tax and advisory firm—as joint liquidators on April 2.

Established in 2000, Factory has employed “hundreds” of staff and is best known for its animation service work on popular series such as CBeebies’ 2015 revival of Clangers (pictured) and Nickelodeon’s The Tiny Chef Show, which premiered in 2022. It also has co-production credits on CBBC projects including Scream Street and Strange Hill High. The company specialized in multiple animation styles, including CG, 2D, digital animation and stop motion.

In a release, Mazars noted that “challenging market conditions,” particularly over the past year, were a factor that contributed to the closure. “Unfortunately, over the last 12 months, the number of projects being greenlit by broadcasters around the world has been severely cut as the global economy and audience behaviors have changed markedly.”

Eight staff have been made redundant, according to Manchester Evening News. And JPS Chartered Surveyors was assisting with the sale of Factory’s assets in an online auction that ran from March 15 to April 11. These assets included a range of studio equipment, as well as puppets of notable pop culture figures used in the adult series Newzoids (which aired on ITV between 2015 and 2016).
