Airbnb has launched a new Icons category on its platform that will offer new branded stay experiences to travelers on the hunt for more unique lodgings.
The LA-based hospitality company has unveiled 11 Icons experiences that will roll out worldwide this year—and it’s the licensed lodgings that really steal the show. These family-friendly experiences include the X-Mansion dorms from X-Men ’97 (New York), the floating house from Pixar’s Up (New Mexico) and the Inside Out 2 Dreamatorium, which is guaranteed to be a hot ticket when it launches next month to tie into the movie’s June 14 theatrical release.
Each Icons experience is available for groups or individuals to reserve through a lottery system. Airbnb users can enter the lottery through the app by choosing their dates, adding guests and sharing why they want to visit. The system then auto-populates a set of guests to fill the rooms, although Airbnb will review each user’s entry to accommodate unique connections to each property. More than 4,000 single-room stays will be up for grabs this year across the 11 Icons experiences.
Travelers can already request to stay at the X-Mansion, which has room for up to eight people. Hosted by teenage mutant Jubilee, guests will be able to conduct experiments in Beast’s science lab, try on the iconic Cerebro helmet to discover their latent superpowers, and then practice these newfound abilities in the Danger Room. To commemorate the experience, they’ll also take home a class photo and a graduation diploma from Professor X’s school.
