Inga Leschek has been promoted to chief content officer at Germany’s RTL Deutschland, and she will also have a seat on the media company’s management board.
Starting in her new role on June 1, Leschek takes over from Stephan Schmitter, who was upped to CEO in January.
For the past year, Leschek has been the program manager for linear channel RTL and the RTL+ streaming service. This new promotion essentially expands her content remit to also cover the rest of the company’s channel brands (including Vox and Nitro) and news platforms (except for Stern+).
Oliver Schablitzki, who was established as CEO of Super RTL earlier this year, will report to Leschek going forward. He’ll continue to oversee kids programming that falls under the TOGGO brand and older-skewing content that airs in the evening under the RTL Super brand (encompassing a broad range of romantic comedies, animated family films and adult-skewing crime shows).
Leschek has helped RTL “significantly increase its audience share and market leadership in all target groups up to the age of 59,” notes Schmitter. And in her position on the management board, she will support strategic goals such as expanding RTL’s linear reach and transforming its streaming catalogue with more creativity and consistency. RTL has been in growth mode lately, tabling a deal in April that has yet to be approved for its kidsnet to replace Nickelodeon in Germany.
In a previous stint as MD of RTL Studios from 2013 to 2021, Leschek produced the children’s edition of competition series Ninja Warrior Germany that launched on Super RTL in 2020. She left briefly to work for a year at Netflix CEE/DACH (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) as director of nonfiction, and then returned to RTL in March 2023.
