- Spain’s Morgana Studios and Canadian banners ReachStar Entertainment and ReDefine Originals are partnering to produce a new 2D-animated family feature called Diamante. Starring a young boy who aspires to become a pro baseball player, the pic will showcase the culture/folklore of the Dominican Republic—where baseball is a hugely loved sport. DNEG-owned ReDefine is doing the animation on this project, which will be directed and produced by filmmaker Mathieu Ratthé (Lovefield).

The Sloth Lane
- German agent Sola Media has closed sales in 40-plus territories for Aussie movie The Sloth Lane, including Portugal (NOS), Hungary and Romania (ADS), Israel (Filmhouse), Taiwan (AvJet), Greece (Tanweer), Turkey (TME) and the Middle East (Krisco). Produced by Brisbane’s Like A Photon Creative, this CG-animated feature is about a family of sloths who run a food truck business. Alceon Entertainment and Screen Queensland have contributed funding to the project, which will premiere at Annecy next month.
- Briarcliff Entertainment in LA has snapped up North American rights to CG-animated kids & family flick 10 Lives (pictured), directed by Chris Jenkins (Surf’s Up). Britain’s GFM Animation produced the film, which is slated for a US theatrical release on October 11. It tags along with a spoiled cat who gets a second chance after he carelessly loses his nine lives. This voice cast includes comedian Mo Gilligan, actors Bill Nighy and Simone Ashley with singer Zayn Malik, and the former One Direction member is also executive producing the film’s soundtrack. London’s Taost Entertainment secured the Chinese distribution rights last year.
