- PGS Entertainment has tapped Magic Star to become the global music distributor for its new CG-animated series Mini Smiley (pictured, 78 x two minutes), co-produced with London’s The Smiley Company. Inspired by the company’s smiley face brand, the toon features a mix of original songs and hits like “YMCA,” reimagined as “My ABC”. Magic Star is the kids and family arm of Sony Music Entertainment’s The Orchard, which specializes in artist services and music distribution.
- Toei Animation’s powerhouse anime franchise Dragon Ball has secured a raft of new licensing agreements through its North American agent, Crunchyroll. The new partners include Jazwares (Squishmallows plush), TeeTurtle and Darc Sports (apparel), as well as Hallmark and Funko (ornaments).
- Australian kids band The Wiggles has signed with UTA to lead touring, licensing and publishing efforts in North America, spearheaded by licensing agent Sid Kaufman. Haven Global will remain as the international agency for the group. The Wiggles recently appointed Luke O’Neill as the band’s first-ever CEO to drive more growth across content distribution and consumer products.
