Microsoft’s Mojang Studios has just revealed that it’s developing a new CG-animated Minecraft series in partnership with Netflix and WildBrain to celebrate the game’s 15th anniversary. No plot details were available at press time, but Netflix says the show will feature an original story and introduce new characters to the gaming franchise. WildBrain has plenty of experience adapting video games for TV, having produced the CG-animated Sonic Prime series for SEGA of America last year.

Mojang is also collaborating with Experience MOD and Supply + Demand to produce Minecraft Experience: Villager Rescue (pictured), which is set to touch down in Dallas on September 20, with more stops to be announced at a later date. This touring hands-on exhibit is designed for children ages seven and up and takes about an hour to complete.

Groups of 25 guests at a time will start their Minecraft journey in the welcome lobby, where they’ll receive the Orb of Interaction. This device can be used to recreate Minecraft’s gameplay and interact directly with the world’s displays by breaking blocks, fighting enemies and collecting resources. Guests will have to team up in family and friend groups to complete physical challenges and puzzles reminiscent of escape rooms in order to rescue all of the villagers scattered around the world’s 11 biomes.

Once this quest is complete, guests will transition from the interactive exhibit to the on-site Minecraft Trading Post, stocked with a wide range of officially licensed apparel, toys and merchandise to commemorate their experience.

Quebec-based Supply + Demand is one of Experience MOD’s producing partners for location-based entertainment experiences. It also works with Act 5 Entertainment (US), FKP Scorpio (Germany) and LOS Production (France). With more than 20 years of experience in the space, Supply has done VFX for Cirque Du Soleil Fuzion, content design for The Game Awards and an experience based on iconic children’s book Goodnight Moon
