Kartoon Studios has partnered with Tel Aviv-based Deepdub on Castilian Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Arabic and Italian FAST channel content dubs.
Deepdub claims that its AI-powered text-to-speech technology makes it possible to dub content 70% faster and 50% cheaper than traditional methods that represent a major cost for studios because of the time spent on translation, recording the new dialogue and ADR (automated dialogue replacement) to make sure the animation matches up.
The techco has dubbed more than 1,000 hours of content currently available on Netflix, Peacock and YouTube. Hulu is among its clients, having contracted Deepdub to make an English version of its Portugese-language drama series Vanda.
Kartoon Studios says teaming up with Deepdub means it can get Kartoon Channel!’s catalogue of animated and live-action content out in a greater number of markets faster and more cost-effectively. The FAST service is running Kartoon Studios originals such as Stan Lee’s Superhero Kindergarten, Shaq’s Garage (pictured) and Rainbow Rangers, as well as acquisitions including Peppa Pig, Yu-Gi-Oh! and The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss.
Kartoon Studios has been especially bullish on AI’s potential to save time and money in development and production. The company is currently building a proprietary toolkit that will combine several tools (think ChatGPT and Midjourney) into one package to speed up production.
