Barcelona’s IMC Toys is expanding its manufacturing portfolio from Cry Babies dolls and Dinobytes action figures with its two first products in the board games category. Crystal Ganir, VP and head of marketing, says the goal is to create a range of interactive games in order to generate more social moments between families and friends.

IMC’s first title to market in this category will be Camera Escape (pictured), which is launching in Target stores across North America this week. The game features a high-tech sensor that detects movement and triggers lights and sounds. To win, players must get as close to the sensor as possible without being caught out, and then hack into the camera’s light system to disconnect its internal wires.

IMC will follow up in July with a second game called Truth Detector that’s also launching with Target first, and then Amazon later in September. Designed for kids ages eight and up, this fib-busting SKU features more than 500 questions that players hooked up to a truth detector machine and headpiece must answer honestly in order to continue the game.

The global board game market is primed for growth as more consumers seek out entertainment options that let them bond with family members and disconnect from their phones, according to Verified Markets Research. The Delaware-based firm forecasts that the segment will generate US$43.3 billion in annual revenue by 2030, growing at an annual rate of 6.75%.
