Utah-based Angel Studios has tapped Toonz Media Group to distribute Gabriel and the Guardians internationally. This 13 x 22-minute anime-style series for kids ages 13 and up is based on the Dead Sea Scrolls and centers around a Celestial Guardian who must protect a sacred tree from villainous threats.
With Robot Playground working on pre-production and Tiger Animation handling production, the fantasy series delivers high-quality value on-screen. And its voice cast includes James Arnold Taylor (Johnny Test), Johnny Yong Bosch (Power Rangers) and Cristina Vee (Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir).
Angel Studios raised more than US$500,000 in development financing for Gabriel on its crowdfunding platform, whose members have invested nearly US$80 million in projects the studio has distributed. Angel’s biggest hit to date is its live-action feature film Sound of Freedom, which earned US$250 million at the box office last year.
Gabriel was developed at Colossul Studios, which was co-founded by series creator Jason Andrew Moody, showrunner David Evan Cunningham and head of production Albert Francis Moore. Moore previously worked on Disney pics including The Lion King and Pocahontas, while Cunningham created a kids show called GizmoGO! and contributed to The Wingfeather Saga.
