Milkshake! and Nickelodeon team up for Tim Rex in Space

The partners' first global co-pro venture will premiere on Nick's US/international channels and on Channel 5's preschool block in the UK next year.

Nickelodeon has teamed up with Channel 5’s Milkshake! block to produce a new 2D-animated preschool series called Tim Rex in Space (pictured, 60 x seven minutes), their first global co-production together.

Tim Rex will launch on Nick’s US and international channels in 2025, with Milkshake! premiering it in the UK. Danish studio Mint Copenhagen (Darkness Between Us) created the series and will serve as the lead producer, with Ireland’s Jam Media handling the animation. Talent already on board includes director Sam Dransfield (Bossy Bear) and head writer Andy Potter (Sharkdog).

In other Milkshake! news, Channel 5 has ordered Aneeshwar’s Outdoor Adventures from UK-based MCC Media to join the block’s lineup in early 2025. This 20 x 11-minute live-action series follows along with a nine-year-old conservationist and two young volunteers as they embark on missions related to urgent conservation issues, such as rescuing seals and planting trees. Milkshake! is also planning to produce and distribute how-to materials that families can use at home.

Interestingly, Milkshake! is the second British broadcaster to build content around Aneeshwar Kunchala. Sky Kids greenlit a documentary called Save our Wildlife (28 minutes) last year, featuring Kunchala and his friends explaining why some animals are endangered and sharing ideas for protecting them.

Lastly, Milkshake! has renewed two live-action series for second seasons—London-based Doc Hearts’ Reu & Harper’s Wonder World (20 x 11 minutes) and MCC Media’s Cooking with the Gills (15 x 11 minutes). Reu & Harper‘s is about two kids who go on playdates across the UK to learn about different cultures, and Cooking revolves around a family that works with young would-be chefs to make simple recipes.
