Warner Bros. Pictures Animation (WBPA) and LA’s Locksmith Animation have set July 23, 2027 as the release date for their family-friendly film Bad Fairies.
This animated musical comedy is about a gang of fairies who break every rule they can. Megan Nicole Dong (creator and director of Netflix children’s series Centaurworld) is directing the pic, which is currently in production in London, with DNEG producing some of the animation.
Bad Fairies is part of a first-look deal that WBPA and Locksmith—the independent producer behind animated family feature Ron’s Gone Wrong (2021)—signed in June 2023 to co-develop and co-produce animated movies for worldwide distribution. The other film project already announced under this partnership is The Lunar Chronicles, a sci-fi story about four young women who start a rebellion against an evil queen.
The studios have already tapped Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, the co-creators of Tony Award-winning musical Six, to write songs and composer Isabella Summers to write the score for Bad Fairies, which will be produced by veteran animation producer Carolyn Soper (Tangled, Bolt).
