Hasbro is leading the pack as the top licensor in the multi-billion-dollar video game industry, according to new research published by SuperJoost earlier this week.
Drawing on data collected by Aldora Brand Intelligence, SuperJoost’s Digital Toys at Play report ranked the top-performing licensors in the global gaming industry based on how much money users spent on titles tied to their toy and entertainment brands between July 2023 and June 2024.
The top 10 companies on the list generated US$9.9 billion in combined revenue. Contributing US$3.25 billion to this cumulative total, Hasbro is sitting in the number-one spot, with Monopoly and Dungeons & Dragons as its best-performing game licenses. The toyco is ahead of next-bests Disney (US$1.7 billion), Wizarding World (US$1.6 billion) Bandai Namco (US$1.4 billion) and The Pokémon Company (US$1.12 billion) by quite a margin.
Generating US$2.48 billion for Hasbro in the report’s 12-month data window, Monopoly was the top revenue-driving franchise. Titles feeding into this impressive performance include Marmalade Game Studio’s mobile edition of the classic Monopoly tabletop game, SciPlay’s Monopoly Slots casino game and Scopely’s Monopoly Go! (pictured), which launched in April 2023 and generated more than US$2 billion in its first 10 months in the market.
Harry Potter brought in US$1.77 billion to come in second on the list, followed by Pokémon (US$1.12 billion), Dragon Ball (US$85 million) and Dungeons & Dragons (US$57 million).
