Expanding its partnership with Hasbro, Image Comics is working towards launching a new Transformers: Worst Bot Ever collection of graphic novels for middle-grade readers under its Skybound Comet imprint next summer.

This series will follow the misadventures of a brand-new character named Ballpoint (who aptly transforms into a ballpoint pen). Former Marvel and DC editor Brian Smith and American artist Marz Jr. are on board as writer and illustrator, respectively.

A first volume entitled Meet Ballpoint! will debut at comic shops on July 9 next year, followed by a wider rollout in book retailers and on digital platforms. Its story starts with Ballpoint getting kicked out of the evil Decepticons for good after his latest attempt to take down Optimus Prime and the Autobots goes horribly wrong. Shunned by his former comrades, Ballpoint sets out to defeat the Autobots all by himself to prove his worth to his clan.

Image Comics launched Skybound Comet two years ago, and it has since published six original graphic novels for YA and middle-grade readers. They include Sea Serpent’s Heir, Outpost Zero, Scurry, Everyday Hero Machine Boy, Ava’s Demon and a first licensed series called Clementine, which expands on The Walking Dead universe.

Meanwhile, sister imprint Skybound Comics is gearing up to expand its ongoing Energon Universe comic series with a new G.I. Joe reboot beginning in November. Other serialized titles in its portfolio include Transformers and Void Rivals, which will ship their 12th issues later this month.
