ABC Australia has commissioned four new series for kids to join its programming lineup in 2025/2026, and an animated CBC co-pro is in the mix

Produced by Pirate Size Productions (Australia), Mainframe Studios (Canada) and Infinite Studios (Singapore/Indonesia), Andrew the Big BIG Unicorn (pictured, 40 x seven minutes) targets preschoolers with the story of a young rhino living his life as a very big unicorn. It will premiere in Australia on ABC Kids and ABC iview, and in Canada on CBC Kids, Radio-Canada, CBC Gem and ICI TOU.TV. Handling international distribution and licensing & merchandising is Kartoon Studios (formerly Genius Brands International).

DO NOT WATCH THIS SHOW (12 x 11 minutes) is an adaptation of Scholastic’s DO NOT OPEN THIS BOOK publishing franchise, which features eight books written by comedian Andy Lee and illustrated by Heath McKenzie. They center around a blue monster who tries all sorts of tactics, from pleading to cute puppy pics, to discourage kids from reading on. Available in 35 languages, the books have collectively sold more than two million copies worldwide. Melbourne’s Lee Bones Productions is producing the TV show and handling worldwide sales. It will premiere on ABC Family and iview in 2025.

The third animated series in this latest batch of ABC greenlights is Flower & Flour (39 x seven minutes) from Sydney-based Cheeky Little Media (Kangaroo Beach, Vegesaurs). Targeting preschoolers, it’s about a young girl and her best friend—a bag of flour that acts like a cat—helping to run her family’s restaurant in a bustling metropolis. Dan Mansour created the concept for Flower & Flour, which will premiere on ABC Kids and iview in 2026, with Sinking Ship managing global sales and Cheeky Little Commercial representing the IP in licensing waters.

ABC has also greenlit a new puppet/live-action preschool series called Knee High Spies from Melbourne’s Werner Film Productions (Surviving Summer, Crazy Fun Park). Tim Bain (Kangaroo Beach) created and wrote the scripts for this 20 x 11-minuter, and Australian Children’s Television Foundation is distributing it internationally. Episodes will see a teddy bear and his team of toy spies saving their human family from an evil pet guinea pig. Knee High Spies is due out on ABC Kids and iview in 2026.
