Mattel has tapped former Activision Blizzard exec Ken Wee to join its senior leadership team as EVP and chief strategy officer.

Wee now oversees all aspects of strategic planning and corporate development, and will identify new business opportunities to accelerate the toyco’s growth. He joined the team earlier this month and reports to chairman and CEO Ynon Kreiz.

Wee lands at Mattel following a four-year stint as chief strategy officer of LA-based game developer Activision Blizzard. During his tenure there, he spearheaded several commercial initiatives to expand the reach of the company’s Call of Duty and Overwatch franchises, and identified new M&A opportunities to grow the business, including Microsoft’s US$69-billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard last year.

In addition to his gaming industry experience, Wee has also served as a consultant and partner at McKinsey & Company in New York, where he oversaw the firm’s interactive entertainment practice for nine years.
