Strong’s National Toy Hall of Fame in New York has announced the 12 finalists that will be considered for induction at this year’s November ceremony, including Hasbro’s My Little Pony and Transformers.
The other 10 nominated toys are: card games Apples to Apples and Phase 10, balloons, choose-your-own-adventure gamebooks, Hess Toy Trucks, the Pokémon trading card game, remote-controlled vehicles, hobby horses, trampolines and the board game Sequence.
Strong’s has added 84 products to its Hall of Fame since 1998, including American Girl dolls, alphabet blocks and baseball cards. Hasbro’s My Little Pony and Transformers have both previously been nominated.
Fans can vote to determine this year’s winners from September 18 to 25 on the Toy Hall of Fame website. The three toys that get the most votes will be inducted, along with three that will be hand-picked by the Hall of Fame’s selection committee.
Strong’s National Toy Hall of Fame recognizes toys that have engaged multiple generations. Its criteria stipulates that products must exhibit “icon status” and longevity (no fads are considered), and they must also have fostered learning and changed play/toy design.
Cabbage Patch Kids, NERF and the Fisher-Price Corn Popper were among the toys that won admittance to the Hall of Fame in 2023.
