Mediawan and SpringHill Company, LeBron James’s production studio, have joined forces to co-develop and co-produce films and TV series together.
The deal includes everything from animation to live action, and movies to scripted/unscripted TV series. The companies have already slated two initial projects: scripted feature film Weekend Warriors and unscripted series The Shop.
Weekend Warriors is based on a 2023 German-language film called Weekend Rebels (produced by Mediawan’s German film unit). It’s about a boy with autism who wants to travel with his dad to see every pro soccer team play so that he can decide which team is his favorite. Plan B, Mediawan’s US-based division, is producing this pic with SpringHill for Apple.
Created by SpringHill, The Shop features celebrities in sports, film and pop culture chatting about hot topics. It was originally made for HBO, and a UK version is in the works. Mediawan’s French company Black Dynamite Production is also adapting the concept for French-speaking markets.
SpringHill, which is run by James and producer Maverick Carter, has previously produced docuseries Starting 5 and family-friendly film Rez Ball for Netflix.
