Sinking Ship Entertainment has welcomed a much older-skewing title into its kids catalogue ahead of MIPCOM, where it hopes to close some sales for teen drama Near or Far (pictured).

Produced by Toronto’s Harlow Creative (Queens) in association with LA’s Wattpad WEBTOON Studios (Lore Olympus), this eight x 15-minute live-actioner focuses on twin sisters Sadie and Lauren, who have grown up as inseparable besties but must now deal with the tensions that come from living apart for the first time.

“We’ve seen a growing demand for authentic, diverse storytelling from international broadcasters,” says Kate Sanagan, Sinking Ship’s head of sales and distribution. “Near or Far not only meets that demand, it also taps into universal themes of identity, memory and family. What sets this series apart is how it thoughtfully navigates the tension between cultural heritage and personal growth.”

Near or Far is an adaptation of an original same-name story written by Emma Szalai that has racked up 2,500 reads on Wattpad. The project was greenlit by CBC last year and premiered on the Canadian broadcaster’s CBC Gem streamer in March.

Sinking Ship is also looking to make a MIPCOM splash with tween media-literacy vehicle Media Stamped (four x 11 minutes), launching October 21 on TELUS; vocabulary-building bridge series Wordsville (33 x seven minutes), which premiered on TVOKids and WNET this summer; Dino Dex (26 x 11 minutes), set to roll out on Amazon Prime and Amazon Kids+ in the US on October 20; and Odd Squad UK (12 x 30 minutes), following its debut last week on PBS KIDS and TVOKids.
