Sinking Ship and The Wiggles have teamed up to develop the first-ever animated series based on the Australian kids music group. Details are minimal as it’s still very early days for the project, but it will target a co-viewing family audience with a music-driven original story concept.
The group, which has sold more than 30 million albums/DVDs and eight million books globally, has wanted to expand into animation for some time, says CEO Luke O’Neill.
After more than three decades of entertaining children, The Wiggles have branched out to reach kids where they are over the past year, making YouTube videos with well-known kid-friendly creators and brands such as Blippi, Ms. Rachel and the Harlem Globetrotters.
For Sinking Ship, this Wiggles project is part of a growth strategy to develop and flex its skills as an animation studio. The company delivered Builder Brothers Dream Factory to Corus last year, and more recently announced a new co-pro deal with Cheeky Little Media for Flower & Flour (ABC Australia, TVOKids, SRC and Knowledge Network).
