Nickelodeon Studios is gearing up to start production on My Weird School, a new film based on the same-name kidlit franchise by Dan Gutman.

Like its source material, this live-action project revolves around a school-hating tween boy who teams up with his friends and wacky teachers to stop an alien invasion. The film will launch on Paramount+ and air globally on Nickelodeon channels, but no release date has been set yet.

Jonathan Judge (The Really Loud House) is directing the project. And overseeing production are Shauna Phelan, EVP of live-action series and film at Nickelodeon & Awesomeness with the unit’s SVP of live-action series Brin Lukens (School Spirits) and VP of development and production Brittany Cope (Good Burger 2).

With 100-plus titles published to date by HarperCollins, Gutman’s bestselling book series has sold more than 35 million copies in total since the first installment launched in 2001. Each title follows a different teacher at Ella Mentry School, and several of the books feature nonfiction and graphic novel formats.

Featured image: Cast members Aaron Harris (Ryan), Nakai Takawira (Andrea), Hero Hunter (A.J.), Harper Zilmer (Lex), Liv Pearsall (Mrs. LaGrange), Adam Rose (Mr. Small) and Sean Sotaridona (Todd).
