The LEGO Group has renewed its agreement with Universal Pictures to co-produce three new live-action films based on its iconic LEGO bricks.

The companies inked their first exclusive film agreement in April, 2020, which was set to expire next year.

Each film will be helmed by a different director, with Jake Kasdan (Red One, Jumanji: The Next Level), Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) and Joe Cornish (The Adventures of Tintin) on deck to bring their brick-based visions to light. Universal’s production development EVP Matt Reilly and development director Jacqueline Garell will oversee all three projects, with LEGO’s Jill Wilfert and Ryan Christians producing.

As reported by Deadline, Kasdan plans to make his brick-stacking film with partner Melvin Mar through the Detective Agency studio they own and run together, working with a script from comedy duo Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul (The D Train). In a similar vein, Jenkin’s Wicious Pictures is adapting a screenplay she wrote with former DC Entertainment president Geoff Johns. And Cornish will rewrite a draft from One Punch Man and Rick & Morty scribe Heather Anne Campbell.

In other LEGO news, the Danish toyco has also broken ground on a new 50,000-square-meter Innovation Campus, where new sustainable LEGO bricks and cutting-edge construction sets will be developed. Once complete in 2027, the facility will house more than 1,700 employees from the company’s product development, design, gaming and marketing teams.
