Deals in Brief – December 9, 2024

Sky strikes a deal with WBD that includes streaming rights to the upcoming Harry Potter series, while Spellbound enchants ITV in the UK and other international broadcasters.

  • Comcast has renewed its distribution deal with Warner Bros. Discovery, acquiring the rights to bundle Max in the US market. As part of the agreement, Comcast subsidiary Sky will also launch Max’s ad-supported tier in the UK and Ireland in 2026, as well as securing the streaming rights to Warner Bros. Television’s upcoming Harry Potter live-action series.

 

  • ITV has bought the first season of Cottonwood Media’s ballet-focused tween series Spellbound (pictured), a sequel to Find Me In Paris, which Netflix just picked up for regions including the US/Canada, Spain, Benelux, Nordics and India. Spellbound season one has also sold to SVT (Sweden), VRT (Belgium), Videoland (Netherlands) and Sia All Media (Latvia), while NRK (Norway) and YLE (Finland) have bought two seasons.

 

  • Paramount Global has tapped Strange Scaffold to develop the first tactical RPG in the TMNT franchise. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tactical Takedown will launch next year, featuring a new 20-level story in which the four brothers split up and go on the run from the Foot Clan after the sudden deaths of their master Splinter and archenemy Shredder.
