Toikido is teaming up with fledgling Irish prodco Lazy Sunday and Tokyo-based animation studio Custom Nuts to co-produce a new CG-animated series called Beep Boop.

Targeted at kids ages six to nine, the series revolves around four rogue vending machine robots—Sprinkle, Miao-Miao, Tochi and Kirin—who live in Tokyo’s iconic electronic quarter, Akihabara. Each episode follows the curious Beep Boops as they interact with a new piece of technology. Their adventures include taming rogue digital pets, shooting viral videos and running away from the clean-up crew bent on recycling them and their dojo hideout.

Custom Nuts is well positioned to develop Beep Boop, thanks to its experience in co-developing anime-inspired IPs for international audiences, says founding partner Silas Hickey. In addition to its work with Toikido, the studio is also producing the 2D-animated wrestling toon Riot Sisters with New York-based Baboon Animation.

Studio Metrafilms producer and co-founder Artem Vasilyev launched Lazy Sunday earlier this year. Heading up the studio’s operations is creative producer Alan Keane, who has worked on kids shows including The Amazing World of Gumball, The Oddbods Show and Open Season: Call of Nature

The Beep Boop characters and concept are Toikido creations, and the company will be handling the show’s IP development.
