Surge Licensing is building a global merch program for Felix the Cat’s best friend Poindexter, and YLE sells tween live-action drama Swang to KiKA in Germany.

  • Felix the Cat Productions has appointed Surge Licensing as the global agency for spin-off IP Poindexter, which originates from its namesake franchise. Poindexter is a genius scientist character created by Joe Oriolo in the 1950s to be Felix’s best friend. Surge will develop a global consumer products program for the brand that spans toys, apparel, publishing, collectibles and digital media. 

 

  • YLE has sold the first two seasons of its live-action drama series Swang (20 x 15 minutes) to German kids channel KiKA. Produced by Finland’s Kaiho Republic, the show follows two 12-year-old girls pursuing their shared dream of landing major roles in their school’s musical. 

 

  • Munich-based distributor Studio 100 Film is expanding its catalogue with a pair of family features based on well-known German kids books. Produced by youngfilms and Senator Film Produktion, Conni and the Mystery of the Crane is about a young girl who helps an injured crane reunite with his migration flock. And Emmi & Unipig is a co-pro from Carte Blanche Media, Little Dream Entertainment and AMOUR FOU Filmproduktion revolving around a girl and her unique pig/unicorn sidekick.

 

  • Character Options has signed on to exclusively distribute Playmates Toys’ upcoming Power Rangers Re-Ignition toy line in the UK and Ireland. These new SKUs will be unveiled to buyers later this month at the London Toy Fair before their retail rollout this summer.
