It’s not just screens on Earth—anime is looking to dominate audience viewing habits up in the skies, too.

Delta Air Lines has inked a new deal with the anime streamer Crunchyroll to bolster its in-flight entertainment library with 2,000 anime titles, adding up to a whopping 25,000 hours of content.

This selection will include more than 50,000 films and episodes curated by Crunchyroll and will roll out later this year on Delta aircraft.

In recent years, in-flight entertainment has emerged as a new distribution path, as airlines seek to serve a growing demand for kids and family movies.

This is the first time Sony’s anime streamer has signed an in-flight entertainment partnership, an avenue well-positioned to give fans of the genre a chance to sample new titles—or for newbies to discover the deep world of anime.

“There is nothing better on a long flight than immersing yourself in the rich storytelling and world-building of anime,” Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini noted in a release. “And when they get hooked, they can continue their experience on the Crunchyroll app.”

The rollout has the potential to drive more sign-ups to Crunchyroll, which currently boasts 17 million global subscribers. In fact, the deal will also offer a 24-hour free trial to Crunchyroll for members of Delta Air Lines’ loyalty program SkyMiles—with the option of starting the trial during the flight or after landing.
