Sesame Workshop and YouTube are growing their partnership with more content and even workshops on the horizon.
The Google-owned platform’s MD and global head of youth and learning Katie Kurtz made the announcement today in a blog post.
Starting in January, hundreds of Sesame Street episodes will head to YouTube, making it the largest digital library of content from the long-running series. Under the newly expanded deal, Sesame Workshop will also continue to create Sesame Street content specifically for the platform.
Sesame Workshop will also host a number of workshops with YouTube creators to “share best practices on how to create content that is entertaining while also promoting learning,” Kurtz added.
The impressive YouTube metrics of the 56-year-old IP certainly back up this latest agreement. Kurtz underlined that Sesame Street’s YouTube channels generated more than five billion views in the past year alone, which is a whopping 130% increase from the previous year.
As previously announced, Sesame Street is gearing up to debut new episodes on Netflix and PBS in November. The market-leading streamer nabbed exclusive worldwide premiere rights to the show after its HBO output deal ended last year.
