Disney Branded TV has put in a pilot order for Eerie Prep, a long-awaited TV project based on 10 bestselling books published by Scholastic from 2014 to 2019.
The brainchild of kids author Max Brallier (under the pen name Jack Chabert), the Eerie Elementary series tells the story of a third-grade boy who has to save other students after realizing that his elementary school is both sentient and evil.
Bound for Disney+ and Disney Channel, Eerie Prep will feature a plot about the disappearance of a sibling with some tweaks to the original publishing franchise. Its protagonist will be a girl (played by Madalen Mills), and the aged-up setting is a prep school. (Notably, the Disney+ pilot order for Holes earlier this year similarly reimagined this beloved novel with a teen girl lead.)
David Steinberg and Keetgi Kogan penned the Eerie Prep pilot script, with Eric Dean Seaton (The Thundermans) directing and Raven Metzner (Star Trek: Discovery) attached as a showrunner.
The series will be produced by Canada’s Thunderbird Entertainment, and filming for the pilot is already underway, according to a schedule posted by Creative BC. The prodco optioned Eerie Elementary in 2018 for development through its Atomic Cartoons division, which also adapted Brallier’s other novel series The Last Kids on Earth into a three-season animated series for Netflix.
Thunderbird has been on a roll this week, between this greenlight and yesterday’s Netflix series order for Crew Girl, which will be produced by its Great Pacific Media division.
