London’s Lupus Films is reuniting with Mog the tabby cat as it puts a new 2D-animated seasonal special commissioned by Channel 4 into production.
Set to debut in 2026, Mog’s Bad Thing (pictured, 24 minutes) is a follow-up to the studio’s 2023 special for the broadcaster, Mog’s Christmas.
Both adaptations are based on beloved kids author Judith Kerr’s Mog picture book franchise, which has sold more than four million copies to date. With 17 titles released since 1970, the series has been a multi-generational favorite among UK readers for decades. And as recently as 2015, Mog’s Christmas Calamity topped regional book sales charts along with the feline starring in a Sainsbury’s holiday ad that year.
Mog’s Bad Thing sees the tabby getting ready for a cat show that her human family is hosting in their garden—until she does a bad thing that makes her hide in shame.
Tapping into a growing appetite for event cinema, Lupus is giving the special a big-screen launch before its TV premiere on Channel 4. The film will be screened in UK theaters in a double-feature with Mog’s Christmas as part of an exclusive deal with a yet-to-be-announced theatrical distributor.
And Lupus has brought on Serious Kids to handle international distribution for both theatrical and TV rights. The company will be scouting for presales at MIPCOM next month.
Mog’s Bad Thing is the latest addition to Lupus’s growing holiday specials library, which also includes another notable Kerr adaptation, The Tiger Who Came to Tea (2019).
