Angel and its frequent studio partner 2521 Entertainment have teamed up to acquire the David franchise from Delaware prodco Slingshot USA for US$78 million.
The acquisition encompasses a five-part CG-animated miniseries called Young David (pictured), which is available on Angel’s platform and faith-based children’s streamer Minno. The two companies plan to expand this kids brand, which resonates with the 1.5 million Angel Guild subscribers who determine what projects Angel finances.
According to a release, Young David drew some of the highest approval ratings from these members that the company has ever seen, highlighting the potential for Angel to do more with the IP. Initially, Angel is planning on producing additional episodes of the animated series.
Back in March, as part of a conversation about the success that faith-based kids content is currently having, Minno’s CEO and founder Erick Goss praised Young David for having “Pixar-level animation quality,” saying, “It’s probably the best animated series that’s been produced in Christian media ever.” Incidentally, Minno Press has published a series of books based on the toon.
Today’s acquisition also covers the upcoming CG-animated film David, which premieres in theaters on December 19, 2025. This family-friendly pic, which chronicles David’s life, raised nearly US$5 million from more than 6,000 investors on Angel’s crowdfunding site.
Last month, investment company Trinity Capital committed US$100 million in growth capital to Angel Studios. Armed with this new funding, Angel’s CEO Neil Harmon said in a release that more acquisitions like this one are a possibility.
“Owning the David intellectual property is a long-term strategic asset, and we anticipate making similar [acquisitions of series] that resonate with the Angel Guild, and [that] have performed exceptionally well on our platform,” said Harmon. Acquiring the film also gives Angel a piece of franchise content it can release in theaters during the holiday seasons—meeting a demand from exhibitors, he adds.
2521 Entertainment has worked with Angel on 14 projects, including kid-friendly movie The King of Kings and fantasy series The Wingfeather Saga.
