PEOPLE: Ex-DreamWorks/Kartoon Studios exec Gregg Goldin shifts into consulting

And ABC Australia has named a new commissioning editor for its kids team, while Mattel Studios hires former Paramount exec as VP of ops and strategy.

  • Gregg Goldin (pictured), the former DreamWorks Animation VP who was most recently SVP at Kartoon Studio developing its animated projects, is a free agent again. He has departed Kartoon and is open to consulting on projects, providing insights on early development, shaping an IP and overseeing creative. Goldin has been in the media industry for over 20 years, including stints at Cartoon Network (2006 to 2013) and DreamWorks (2013 to 2023). Goldin oversaw development of projects at both Kartoon Studios and its acquired studio Frederator, which targets tweens/teens and adults. He also led the creative development of the Stan Lee Universe across film and TV.

 

  • Mattel has hired former Paramount business development exec Robert Haiat as VP of operations and strategy. Haiat announced the news yesterday on his LinkedIn. He says he’ll be leading business planning and commercial strategy across all of Mattel Studios’ content, including TV and feature films. Before joining Mattel, he was head of commercial and content partnerships in the US and Canada for Barcelona’s Grup Mediapro. He was at Paramount from 2008 to 2022 as SVP of business development, driving monetization strategies for a portfolio of brands, including Star Trek and NCIS.

 

  • ABC Australia has promoted its development manager Ivy Mak to commissioning editor with ABC Children & Family. On a 12-month contract, Mak will manage development and production of kids and family scripted and factual programs. Mak was development manager in ABC’s Children & Family Commission team for six months, Mary-Ellen Mullane, senior commissioning editor at ABC, tells Kidscreen. Mak was previously a producer who worked at Aussie studios Magpie Pictures and Easy Tiger Productions.

 

  • Location-based entertainment company Falcon’s Beyond Global has promoted its longtime executive Jason Ambler as its first chief content officer to create a cohesive strategy across the company’s attractions and content. Falcon’s Beyond owns and operates the Sol Katmandu Park & Resort in Mallorca, which it is using as inspiration for an animated preschool series. Working with CEO Cecil Magpuri, Ambler will expand the company’s content and IP portfolio and handle how its content rolls out at both its physical destinations and on digital platforms. Ambler has been at Falcon’s Beyond for 12 years, and before that was a special projects director at VFX studio Digital Domain (Transformers: Dark of the Moon).
