Sony Pictures Television has signed a multi-year overall deal with American actor, writer and producer Kelvin Yu. 

Yu is best known in the kids industry for his work as a writer and executive producer on Bento Box Entertainment’s flagship animated series Bob’s Burgers since 2020. He also contributed to 2D-animated Apple TV series Central Park (38 x 22 minutes), as well as adapting Gene Luen Yang’s graphic novel American Born Chinese into an eight-episode fantasy-action sitcom for Disney+ with his brother Charles Yu in 2023. 

Under the overall deal, Yu will develop and produce a mix of scripted comedies, dramas and animated series exclusively for Sony’s TV arm. Studio president Katherine Pope says she’s excited to leverage Yu’s 20-plus years of writing and acting experience to create content for all demos and genres. 

While SPT has been focused on developing adult-skewing series such as The Boys, The Last of Us and Twisted Metal lately, it has also produced a wide range of shows for kids and families over the years. Some notable titles in its portfolio include Octonauts, Cobra Kai, The Creature Cases and SuperKitties.
