What do you think about festivals for AI animation? With a new one for AI-fueled shorts on the way, we thought it would be a good time to take an industry temperature check.

When Kidscreen first started writing about AI, there was, unsurprisingly, a lot of anger and fear expressed about the technology, which many said would threaten human jobs. Just last year, The Animation Guild noted that 61% of its members were “extremely concerned” about AI negatively hurting their future prospects. That data came out amid TAG’s negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, and AI protections was one of the sticking points of the deal.

But in recent conversations Kidscreen has been having, there seems to be more openness to learning about reputable AI technologies that can enhance—rather than replace—some development and production processes.

So we’re curious to get your perspective. Are attitudes changing around AI? Are AI animation festivals a good thing for spotlighted indie creative work that’s still human-driven? Or would celebrating AI animation betray the contributions of real artists?
