If an Oscar nomination and a new box-office record weren’t enough, Disney Animation’s latest sequel has more reasons to celebrate. 

The 2026 BAFTA film awards shortlist is out, and Zootopia 2 (or Zootropolis 2, as the Brits call it) is a double nominee, earning nods in the Best Animated Film and Best Children’s & Family Film categories. Disney also has Pixar’s Elio (Best Animated Film) and the live-action Lilo & Stitch (Best Children’s & Family Film) in the running. The studio may have been helped by the absence of KPop Demon Hunters—this year’s biggest awards-season contender was left out of the BAFTA race because it doesn’t have the theatrical run required to qualify.

Facing off against Disney in a three-way race for Best Animated Film is Little Amélie or the Character of Rain (Ikki Films/Maybe). This Oscar nominee could potentially benefit from timing—distributor Vue Lumière will be launching it in UK and Irish cinemas on February 13, coinciding with the final round of BAFTA voting, which starts tomorrow and runs until February 17.

Fellow Oscar-nominated indie pic Arco (Remembers/Mountain A) made the Best Children’s & Family Film shortlist alongside the two Disney films and a coming-of-age drama called Boong (Excel Entertainment).

Meanwhile, Universal’s Wicked: For Good (which was completely snubbed by the Oscars, to the surprise of many awards pundits) picked up two BAFTA nominations for Costume Design and Make Up & Hair, while missing the mark in other categories including acting. And another Universal release, the live-action How to Train Your Dragon, is in the running for Special Visual Effects.
