Canada’s DHX Brands and California’s Dentsu Entertainment have inked a master toy deal with JAKKS Pacific for Mega Man. The worldwide agreement, excluding Asia, was brokered by licensing agent CPLG North America.

The multi-year licensing deal gives JAKKS exclusive rights to manufacture, market and distribute a wide range of products. The toy company intends to create action figures, figurines, play sets, accessories, dress-up/role play, Halloween costumes, plush and vehicles inspired by the show.

Mega Man is based on Capcom’s vide game franchise. Aimed at kids ages six to 11, the 3D-animated series is heading into production this summer at DHX Media’s Vancouver studio. Man of Action Entertainment (Ben 10, Generator Rex, Big Hero 6) is writing and executive producing, with collaboration from DHX Media and Dentsu. Several broadcasters have already signed on, including Cartoon Network US and DHX Media’s Family CHRGD in Canada.

The show follows Mega Man using new technology and robots. The series also introduces his alter-ego, Aki Light, a regular school kid/robot with super-charged technology.

The Mega Man video games launched in 1987 from Capcom and spun into 130 titlesĀ on multiple systems. It sold more than 31 million copies worldwide before moving in toys, comics and collectibles. There was also a Mega Man TV show that aired in the US in the mid-1990s on ABC Family.
