This month, KidScreen straps on its hip-waders to reel in a weird new license signing.
What’s next? Elmer Fudd the action figure? Racing Champions may be the first company ever to divine toyetic appeal from huntin’ and fishin’ shows. Last month, the Glen Ellyn, Illinois-based toyco released its Outdoor Sportsman line featuring licensed dolls based on celebrity hunters and fishers. Among the dolls in the series are Jimmy Houston Bass Fisherman, based on the host of ESPN’s Jimmy Houston Outdoors; Bill Jordan White-Tail Deer Hunter, modeled after the head honcho on TNN series Realtree Outdoors; and The Clark Wendlant Tournament Bass Fisherman, inspired by the two-time winner of the FLW Angler of the Year Award. Other dolls include the Pheasant Hunter, licensed by U.S. hunting organization Pheasants Forever; and the Duck Hunter, which comes attired in licensed camouflage.
Racing Champions, which is aiming the dolls at both kids and adult collectors, is marketing the figures under its Ertl Collectibles brand. Each of the poseable 12-inch figures (US$19.99), which are available at sports retailers like Oshman’s as well as select Wal-Mart and Target locations, comes with authentic accessories such as duck decoys, tackle boxes, rods and rifles. Happy hunting!
