India-based multimedia prodco Pentamedia Graphics is set to purchase a 51% stake in Film Roman, the prodco behind Fox series The Simpsons and King of the Hill. The deal-expected to close by January, pending regulatory and board approvals in both countries-represents a US$15-million investment in Film Roman by Pentamedia.

With Pentamedia as co-pro and co-financing partner, Film Roman will be able to step up production of animation projects in non-network areas, as well as gaining access to expanded digital resources and capabilities. While offshore production relationships on current Film Roman animated series will not change, Pentamedia’s digital studios-located throughout India, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Canada-will likely step in for future off-shore production work.

Following approval of the investment, Pentamedia’s chairman and CEO Dr. V. Chandrasekaran will join Film Roman’s board of directors along with other Pentamedia senior executives.
