Toysrus.com has inked a deal with Nickelodeon to sell toys, video games and other licensed merchandise based on the kidcaster’s properties, which include Rugrats and Blue’s Clues, among others. This fall, the e-tailer will introduce a Nick boutique on its site to highlight the merchandise, which will include a link to the Nick.com Web site. As per the agreement, toysrus.com will also acquire the entire inventory from toy site Red Rocket, which Nick’s parentco Viacom shut down in May after months of struggling to compete with market leaders eToys, Amazon and toysrus.com. Toysrus.com’s deal with Nick comes only days after the e-tailer announced it was doubling its staff, despite a succession of closures that have hit the on-line toy biz recently. In addition to Red Rocket, Torrance, California-based ToyTime.com and Disney-owned Toysmart.com have both called it quits in the last two months. Also, in April, KBkids.com announced that it was slashing its labor force by 30%.
