The LEGO Group has unveiled a series of playsets for children seven and up that adds in a layer of augmented reality (AR), called LEGO Hidden Side.
Integrated with eight different building sets, when users activate the AR app they assume a first-person perspective and play with two characters, exploring the sites and solving paranormal mysteries. Gameplay will prompt users to hold their phone up to the physical LEGO models and interact with various elements, but the app also features a digital game that kids can play independent of the building sets.
After launch, the app will expand with new game challenges and randomization of gameplay every so often. The physical sets will range in price from US$19.99 to US$129.99 and the app will be free to download from the App Store and Google Play.
In other recent LEGO news, the toyco released a new AR app to bring its Ninjango set to life in December, and announced a recent partnership with Dodge for a new construction set featuring the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.
