The first offspring of the Muppet property is making its way to stores in book form. Jim Henson’s Scary Scary Monsters (US$14.95), published by Golden Books last month, follows the lives of eight amiable monsters-Norbert, Shooby, Splurge, Monstradamus, Zuzu, Mungo and Smooch-as they make their way in their world (called Overdare), a place where humans only exist in folktale. The monsters are based on characters Henson drew back in the 1960s and `70s. The pop-up book is targeted to kids ages three to seven. Additionally, Golden Books has created two plush figures (US$4.99) of Norbert and Zuzu, which will be available to consumers while supplies last. A television show based on Jim Henson’s Scary Scary Monsters is currently in development.
